This listing is for Factory OEM Complete air box assemblies for 1987-2001 Jeep Cherokee XJs with 4.0 engines. These will include the lower & upper air box halfs with 3 clips & the rubber hose to connect the air box lid to the throttle body. SHOULD have the factory clamps, but you may have to use a standard hose clamp. All snap clips should be on the box or included.
- 1994-2001 Is the most common with the new updated hook and clip design. These would work in 1991-2001 4.0s but the 1991-1992/3? have and extra gas evap vent hose barb on the air box lid located on the back driver side. 1994-2001 just have the one single bung on the front inner side of the air box lid that connects to the valve cover via vent tube. If you have a 1991-1993 and have a little bit of ingenuity to tie vent tubes together, this would be your best choice.
- 1992 & 1993 ONLY - These have the newer slide in and 3 clip design over the earlier years, but they also have the extra "vent bung" for the gas evap located on the back driver side of the top air box lid.
- 1991 ONLY Is the early H.O 4.0L years. These bolt up and function the same as the 1994-2001 but have a terrible design that swells in the middle letting the air filter fall into the box and the clips holding the top & bottom together don't make good contact. They also have the extra "vent bung" for the gas evap located on the back driver side of the top air box lid.
- 1987-1990 - This was the first design of the 4.0L in the Jeep Cherokee AKA Renix Engines. These bolt to the body the same as all of them, also using the same problematic design that swells in the middle letting the air filter fall into the box and the clips holding the top & bottom together don't make good contact. These have the valve that pulls heat off of the exhaust, these never work and I can't promise you will get the need hose that runs to the exhaust, they all fall apart! 35+ years old! These also use the 3 bolt flat flange to the throttle body. (If you have the rubber hose and JUST need the upper and lower box, contact me, I may can sell you that cheaper less the rubber hose)
If you need the PCV Vent Tube - CLICK HERE
2.5 four cylinders I believe use the same box, just a different rubber hose, If you need them contact me, I think I have a few, just don't know the demand for them.
