Transmission Control Module - TCM - 1987-2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ
Couldn't load pickup availability
- These are Transmission Control Modules used in the 1987-2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ with 4.0 engines bolted to Automatic AW4 Transmissions. These are typically pulled from wrecks or bad engine, or sometimes even rusty or to rough to resell XJs.
- I sell these as "In Stock Items" Meaning these are pulled off laying on the shelf ready to sell. If the one you need is out of stock doesn't mean I don't have one, just means I don't have one on the shelf for my wife to pull via part #. If you are in great needs of one CONTACT ME and I will see what I can do!
- These parts are sold AS-IS. I don't sell anything that I am not confident in, but there is so many variables to havening transmission related issues other than these control modules.
- I have not yet done a video explaining which year transmissions will interchange, but I will try to explain it below. The Transmission's all have a year ID tag on the passenger side close to the exhaust mount.
- 1998-2001 Jeep XJs all Interchange. They have an Input Speed sensor located where the shifter rod goes in on the driver side. You would need this year specific for a 98-01 XJ.
- 1997 Jeep XJ is Technically a stand off year meaning ONLY 1997 Transmission or TCM would interchange. They do not have the input speed sensor, and use the new style connectors on the Plugs to the transmission and Neutral safety switch. Read Below for information about the 1996-1997 Interchangeability
1996-1997 Transmission are basically the same exact transmission internally and externally. They use different styles of electrical connector, so you could swap wiring harnesses or even splice the connector plugs from both years. ( I think they are color matching) So the TCMs do mount in different locations and mounting pattern is different but I personally think they would interchange. I will try one day soon!
- 1996 Jeep Cherokee XJs is Technically a stand off year meaning ONLY 1996 Transmission or TCM would interchange. They do not have the input speed sensor, and use the older style connectors on the Plugs to the transmission and Neutral safety switch. Read above for information about the 1996-1997 Interchangeability
- 1991-1995 are all the exact same transmission and use the same TCM to control the functions of the transmission. So any year of these would work in any year. 1991,1992,1993,1994,1995.
- 1987-1990 are the "Renix" Models and these things are basically impossible to find, If I have any I will mark them in stock, but read below or watch this video. 1987,1988,1889,1990
The ONLY thing that change from the 1987-1990 To the 1991-1995 Transmission was changing from a 21 spline output shaft in 87-90s To the 23 Spline in the 1991 & Newer Transmissions. All are the exact same sensors and electronics. Aside from the different shifter cable and renix crank shaft sensor. You CAN use the 91-95 TCM's in your 87-90 Model Jeep XJs. Watch the full video below if needed to see full instructions and proof it works just fine.
